M. Catherine Thomas
Sister Thomas, born in Ohio, went to California when she was 19 years old, and was converted there to the Church, the first in her family to be baptized.
She attended the Church College of Hawaii (now BYU-H), and married her English Literature professor, Gordon K. Thomas, in the Hawaii Temple. Six children later, she completed her doctorate in ancient history, with emphasis in New Testament history and text, and was hired in the BYU Ancient Scripture Department, the first woman to be hired full-time in that department. She also taught at the BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies, and on three London Study Abroad programs. The Thomases have 6 children and 18 grandchildren.
In 1996 Sister Thomas and her husband were called to preside over the Argentina Mendoza mission. Loving that work, they served five more missions in: Chile, Mexico, Spain, England, and most recently, they returned from the newly re-rebuilt temple in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
