Session Description:
Four individuals share their different stories.
Breaking the Boundaries of Identity
Stephen Done
In Stephen’s “My Story,” he shares how he learned of the blessings, peace and growth that come from prioritizing his identities of Son of God, Child of the Covenant, and Disciple of Christ over any earthly label.
I Don’t Believe God Hates Me Anymore
Kyle Johns
After dealing with feelings of same-sex attraction for more than four decades, I began to believe that no matter how hard I tried, I would eventually lose the battle and everything that I valued the most in my life. I’d like to share how I came to see myself and my relationship with God differently and how I now live my life with renewed hope and joy.
My Story: Four Perspectives for Holding on to your Child and Your Faith
Janet Hovorka
Welcome to parenting grad school, you’re not in Parenting 101 anymore. I have learned from experience that when your child comes out to you with LGBT feelings, there are four ideas that can get you from confusion and crisis, to clarity and confidence before the Lord. Let me share with you what I’ve learned from previous North Star conferences and other ideas I wish I had been able to see from the beginning.
My Story: Better Paths: Trusting Christ’s Vision for Our Lives
Skyler Sorenson
In scripture, God offers a challenge before promising to pour out the “windows of Heaven” upon our heads: “Prove me now herewith.” Throughout my life, I have experienced that same pattern of God proving to me how much better His plan is than my own. I’ve had a lot of assumptions about how my life would pan out if I kept my covenants. Needless to say, it hasn’t panned out exactly how I expected. Fortunately, that is a very good thing. With my limited scope of mortality, the life I envisioned for myself was far below what God knew I could have. Because we don’t have the context of eternity, we tend to put ourselves far below our potential. But when we let God prevail in our lives, we have higher potential than a life on our own. Time and again, Christ has proved to me that the juice is worth the squeeze. The windows of Heaven have poured out on me, and fortunately, I wasn’t fully in charge of the outcomes.
